Our Program Pathways:
Contents

Soaring in spirit together...
  • Worship time: Sunday at 10:00am.  Deepening our Spiritual life and connecting as a community.  We utilize projection during our services to best enhance the experience for our gathered comminuty.
  • We recognise there are many paths to God. We explore alternative styles of worship, use inclusive language, and remain open-minded to the possibilities we have yet to explore.

Flowing with the rhythm...
Music is what truly brings us to that "thin place" where we know the Spirit is present.
  • Piano is our primary instrument
  • Music supplied by contracted musicians and by talented congregation members (instrumentally and vocally) from the very young to the not-so-young.
  • Projection has freed many of us to look up and sing out rather than use the hymnals (although they are available for those who wish to use them).

Music sends our spirits soaring! We make every effort to choose inclusive music which brings us together, singing songs of faith, hope and love.

Moving with our youth...
  • PowerXpress Club follows the Rotation Model of church school.
  • Age 3 to Grade 6 children explore and experience a scripture reading or theme over a four-week period using different activities such as drama, music, cooking, science, arts, puppets, story-telling, etc.
  • Program runs mid-September until the end of May (with the exception of long weekends and school holiday weekends).
  • Registration is free and takes place after the labour day weekend.

    • Junior Youth Grade 7-9 meet Friday evenings for planned outings or various activities at the church.  This is a program planned and supervised by parents.
    • The activities are organized by interested parents and the youth.
    • For more information about activities, call the church office and leave a message for the co-ordinator.

    • Senior Youth Grade 10-12 take part in the service on Sunday mornings.
    • In the past, a youth leader has been contracted to organize various social activities, group discussions and youth participation/leadership in occasional services.  It is hoped that once our senior youth numbers increase, we can return to offering this type of programming once again.

    Caring for one another...
    • Devoted group of people who warmly greet all who walk through our doors on Sunday morning.
    • Visitation to those in hospital and members who are unable to venture out of their homes very often.
    • Kind notes of thanks and well wishes are also sent out on behalf of the church.

Searching and questioning our faith in small groups…
    • Book studies that challenge us with new ideologies and encourage us to question--look beyond the box.  (Writers such as John Shelby Spong, Gretta Vosper, Marcus Borg, Peter Gomes and Matthew Fox, Bruce Sanguin, Thomas Bandy, etc)
    • Many events/workshops/retreats are organized to help us step outside the traditional box, where each person is free to explore what fits for them. Some examples are:  labyrinths, spiritual drumming, wilderness canoeing, hiking/skiing, drama, art, science & spitituality, ecology, social justice initiatives, etc.

    Stepping out to social activities…
    • Events that bring us together in movement, laughter and fun are a big part of our church activities--bowling nights, card/game family nights, curling spiels, golf tournaments, potluck picnics, sleigh rides and carolling, and much more.
    • Regular Friday afternoon bridge club and Monday morning scrabble games.

Walking with our United Church Women (UCW)…

Devoted women who offer time, talent and gifts throughout the year.
    • Serve meals for funerals and other functions along with maintaining our kitchen.
    • Through a strong sense of community these women serve the residents of Oliver Lodge nursing home and St. Andrew’s College at the University of Saskatchewan.

    Reaching out to others...

    • Since its formation in 1925, the United Church of Canada has remained committed to sharing God’s love and hope with the world.  The Outreach Ministry Team works to carry out this mission.  We strive to inform the people of Meewasin Valley United Church community of needs to bring about justice in the world.  We  encourage support of the Mission and Service Fund to support the church’s work: theological education, programs, grants to Canadian or international projects, etc.

    • As part of a national church, we work with partners in Canada and the many countries of the world through Action by Churches Together.  ACT responds to emergency needs around the world such as those created by floods, earthquakes, war or other causes.

    • Locally, we reach out to youth through the Egadz My Homes Program in our neighbourhood.  We contribute gifts of funds, time and goods to the Integrated Community Ministry (ICM), which is a community ministry of River Bend Presbytery that endeavors to build relationships of solidarity, justice and compassion with individuals, organizations and core residents of Saskatoon. We also support Station 21, the 10x10 Art Project, and many other outreach programs.

    • A new and exciting venture of MVUC is learning how we can change our lifestyle to nurture and care for all of creation, and indeed, the entire universe.  We celebrate and share actions to enable us to live responsibly in our community, nation and the world.
