Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation

The United Church celebrates two sacraments - Baptism and Holy Communion

Baptism

  • The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated during a service where the community of the church participates by rising up to indicate their willingness to represent God's love to the child.
  • Baptism is a visible sign of the Spirit always present with us.
  • Parents who bring children for Baptism are asked to take vows on behalf of their children. They are as follows:
*Will you provide a welcoming home of love and trust?

*Will you help (child's name) grow in her/his understanding and appreciation of a broad     religious faith?

*Will you encourage (child's name) to reach out to others with love and compassion?

If you are comfortable with these vows, you are warmly invited to arrange an appointment with the minister to discuss the next opportunity for Baptism at Meewasin Valley United.

Note:
MVUC offers Baptism celebration to infants, children of any age, and adults of any age.
A baptism service at MVUC is more of belonging than a religious/trinitarian baptism. It is a joyful celebration for both the families involved and those in the congregation!

Holy Communion
  • All are welcome to take part in the sacrament of Holy Communion celebrated on occasion.
  • Members and visitors of all ages and varied denominational backgrounds are welcome to participate.
  • Bread is broken and offered by tincture with grape juice (dip bread in juice).
  • Gluten-free bread is also offered with a separate cup of grape juice.
  • The meal through which we remember Jesus and the way of life he exemplified.
Confirmation
  • Offered occasionally as needed.
  • A small group of confirmands meets for a few sessions with the minister.
  • It is an opportunity to share the role our faith plays in our lives and experience what it means to be a Christian.
  • Confirmation takes place during a Sunday morning service with the congregation celebrating this meaningful step in the confirmand's faith journey.
